Context
Within a 4-week period, design two book bags. One that would represent the library's history and one that would appeal to children and families.
Objective
Develop 10 concepts for management to choose from. Communicate with a bag merchant and figure out what materials would work best for the needs of RPL library patrons.
Research
Submit approximately 20 designs so that management could critique and narrow them to top 5, then the final 2 choices.
Final Design
The two designs that were chosen by management are listed below. We even received a purchase from Rick Hansen!
Takeaways
The bags were a success selling 376/500, each bag was sold for $4 CAD. Manufacturing costs were $2 per bag and so far received a profit of $752 CAD. The money from this project help fund new learning kits for the library. Some lessons learned is that the yellow colouring gives off a dirty bag look, which could be viewed as old and not good quality (some people liked that however). Pricing of the bags was also a challenge as we have to compete with other bookstores that sell merchandise similar to this such as Indigo, Amazon, local book stores, etc.
